Reminder: You may come anytime after/before school to go over quizzes and tests with Mr.s Derousie. In the past, Mrs. Derousie's highest scoring students did this regularly.
Tutoring: There is a sign-up sheet outside Mrs. Derousie's door. Sign-up, attend for one hour after school with a Freshman Biology Student, get a free late work pass. Tutorees may be present as individuals or a small group. Check the "tutoring" tab for rules, requirements, and dates for additional tutoring opportunities. Syllabus 2012-2013
SAFETY FIRST!
This class includes a laboratory component. You will be required to have a signed Student Safety Contract on file. Improper behavior and/or disregard for safety procedures will result in dismissal from the laboratory and a discipline referral written (safety violation). Class Rules · All school rules apply (pay particular attention to the RHS 5 “Absolutes”). · Come to Class Prepared: have all reading/assignments completed before entering class. Have all class supplies (Textbooks, notebook, pen/pencil, calculator, etc). · All assigned work must be read and turned in on time. · Cheating will not be tolerated · Do not work on other subjects during this class. · Respect your classmates: do not interfere with their education, do your part to maintain a safe learning environment. Grades 90-100 (A), 80-89 (B), 70-79 (C), 60-69 (D), 0-59 (F). Homework and class work = 10 points each Quizzes = 30 points each Laboratory/Tests = 100 points each If there is a discrepancy with a grade you received and the grade shown in the gradebook/computer, it is YOUR responsibility to present the graded assignment for a grade correction (i.e. keep your assignments)! Course Materials:
Classroom Procedures Pink Slip: Refusal to work form. This slip is for every homework assignment or class work assignment that the student either forgets or refuses to do. Yellow Pass: Allow for academic privileges: Late work amnesty (1 extra day per pass). Earned by academic efforts: Saturday school (2 passes), NHS tutoring (1 Pass), etc. Passes can be given to classmates. Green Pass: Hall Pass. Students will be allowed 2 transferable hall passes every quarter. It is advised that the hall passes be reserved for emergencies. If 2 passes are not enough, there will be opportunities to “earn” more passes. If there is a medical condition requiring that a student have more hall passes, have a parent contact Mrs. Derousie to discuss the available options for the student. Textbooks: Feel free to leave them at home. You are not required to bring them to class everyday.; however, there will be a few days in the year when students are advised to bring them. Homework and class work (10pts): Will be assigned almost daily and credit will not be given for homework not completed upon entry into the classroom, or for class work not turned in by the assigned time. For every assignment a student does not turn in a Pink slip will need to be filled out in class. Make-up class work due to an absence is due when you return to class. Or up to 1 day late for every Yellow Pass. Quizzes(30pts) Tests (100pts): Make-up quizzes/tests due to an absence must be done before the end of the quarter, and make-ups will NOT contain multiple choice questions or word banks. It is your responsibility to coordinate with me for an acceptable time for missed tests Laboratory/Projects (100[ts): Labs and projects are typically done with a partner; however, all associated pre-labs/pre-planning and laboratory/project reports need to be completed and submitted for individual grading. The purpose of working with a partner is to conduct the experiment and collect data only! It is your responsibility to coordinate with me for an acceptable time to make-up for missed labs or projects due to an absence. Note: ALL work may be turned in ahead of time for pre-grading. If the student does not like the pre-grade they may make any necessary corrections up until the due date/time; therefore, 100% should be possible for most assignments. Tutoring: Students are required to bring notes, homework and class work to receive tutoring. · Before/after school with Mrs. Derousie or an AP Student. It is advised that students inform Mrs. Derousie that they wish to attend before hand to assure that tutoring is available that day. · NHS offers peer tutors from 2-3pm every Wednesday in the Media Center. · Saturday School meets twice a month from 10am to 12pm in the Cafetorium. Check for posted dates throughout the school year. Be sure to sign-up with Mrs. Derousie before hand to assure that a knowledgeable tutor for your subject will be present. |
